The controller allows four times to be set. They are labeled Wake, Leave, Return and Sleep. SmartStart is supposed to learn the lead time to reach a temperature.
The question is does SmartStart know the difference between Wake/Return vs Leave/Sleep, or are all four set points treated equally? Does SmartStart only affect the Wake and Return times, or does it apply to all four set points?

I think I've found the answer through observation. It appears that SmartStart works whenever the next cycle is set to a higher temperature, regardless of the name of that cycle. When SmartStart is actually doing something the words SmartStart appear near the bottom of the LCD display.
