My wife and I are expecting our first child in May. We have a 9' X 11' room off our bedroom that will work perfect for our nursery, but the room is a dormer over our front porch and 5 of the six walls (although insulated) are exposed to the outside.
We want to tear out the carpet and install hardwood floors in this room, but since the floor is over the front porch, it gets very cold. Our options to warm the floor are to run radiant tubing (we have a boiler), or electric heat cable.
We have used heat cable in our bathroom under tile and it is great. My question is:
Can a wood floor be installed over the heat cable with the use of sleepers?
Can the wood floor under layment (felt paper), be installed over the heat cable?
I am afraid of running the radiant pex tubing due to raising the floor height so much, and the higher temp water wreaking havoc on the expanding and contracting wood floors.
If anyone has experience with this type of installation, please share!!
